Deep Origin Water company was born with an ongoing intention and passion that it would offer the first glass bottled water in New Zealand to defy convention - carrying a refund, bottles & crates are collected or exchanged for washing and reuse.
We strongly believe that the single use bottles launched in New Zealand in the early 80’s has to go. There is active discouragement and no Government policy to introduce systems for bottle refund and reuse. This a non-sustainable practice and is contrary to everything we feel responsible to protect.
Deep Origin Water is taking responsibility to drastically minimise the impact that its packaging elements have on the environment and on future generations of New Zealanders.
To achieve this goal, we created a specific bottle design and chose packaging materials that either used less material or lent themselves to multiple reuse or composting.
For a start, just within the Auckland region, we are able to deliver Deep Origin Water in wooden deposit crates that are made from Pine harvested from sustainably grown New Zealand forests. We estimate they will be used 70 to 120 times.
For the rest of New Zealand we are providing bottles packed in recycled cardboard carton. As we grow our business, we aim to offer this deposit crate in all main centres.
Our hope is other beverage manufacturers will follow our lead in offering container deposits.
